Unit 2 Math and Vectors

Introduction:

Now that you had a week to play, it is time to get down to business. Hopefully you are aware of the class requirements and are ready to go on to bigger and better things. Unit 2 prepares you to start doing some physics. For most people the scariest part of physics comes when they have to use the math that seemed so useless to this point in their lives. Physicists use math as their language--it is the easiest and clearest way to state an idea. Isaac Newton developed calculus, because he needed it to solve physics problems. You don't have to use any calculus here, but you will need to do some algebra , trig, and graphs.
For your test you should be able to:
1) Define the following vocabulary words:
Speed Distance Time Velocity
Displacement Vector Scalar Magnitude
Polar Vector Rectangular Vector Component Vector Addition
Resolve a Vector Compose a Vector Sine Cosine
Tangent Trigonometry Convert Units Scientific Notation
2) Resolve polar vectors into rectangular vectors.
3) Compose rectangular vectors into polar vectors.
4) Perform vector addition with polar and rectangular vectors.
5) Distinguish between vector and scalar quantities.
6) Compute speed and velocity from numerical and graphical data.
7) Perform computations with scientific notation.
8) Convert units.
